NIACC's Jackson places 2nd at Luther Hill Invite
INDIANOLA - NIACC freshman Kenzi Jackson placed second in the varsity division at 235 pounds at Simpson College's Luther Hill Invitational.
Jackson, who is from Tampa, Fla., won her first two matches before being pinned by in 1 minute, 21 seconds by Iowa Lakes' Brooklyn Robinson in the finals.
Jackson topped Iowa Lakes' Delmariea Joseph 11-0 in her first-round match. Jackson stopped Buena Vista's Alanna Peterson 4-0 in her semifinal bout.
For the Trojans in the freshman/sophomore division, freshman Geraldine Honreo placed fourth at 145 pounds.
Honreo, who is from Homestead, Fla., won her first three matches to advance to the semifinals before falling to Iowa Western's Sara Daley 11-3. Quincy's Dempsey Atkinson gained a 10-0 technical fall over Honreo in the third-place match.
Honreo topped William Jewell's McKinzie Ross 14-3 in her first round match. In the second round, Honreo blanked Iowa Lakes' Anacarolina Cazares 6-0 in the second round. Honreo stopped Quincy's Valeria Rodriguez 10-6 in the quarterfinals.
At 124 pounds in the freshman/sophomore division, NIACC's Lily Powell was 2-2. Also at 124 pounds, NIACC's Hannah Rosenberg was 2-2.
NIACC opens its dual season Nov. 12 at home against Southeastern CC. Match time in the NIACC recreation center is slated for 6 p.m.
