Trojans crown three champions
MASON CITY - The NIACC women's wrestling team crowned three champions Saturday at the Battle For The Helmet tournament in the NIACC recreation center.
The Trojans placed second in the team standings with 73 points. Hawkeye CC was the team champion with 73 points.
Claiming individual titles for the Trojans were Anna Stene at 124 pounds, Olivia Brown at 138 pounds and Geraldine Honore at 145 pounds.
At 124 pounds, Stene (2-2) picked up a pair of falls over Hawkeye CC's Chloe Sokolik to claim her Battle For The Helmet title. Stene pinned Sokolik in 6 minutes and 3:51.
At 138 pounds, Brown (4-4) gained a 10-0 technical fall over Waldorf University's Emily Hibner in the semifinals. Brown topped Hawkeye CC's Lexi Beckler 10-0 in the title match.
At 145 pounds, Honore (8-2) stuck Hawkeye's Shannon Dolan in 1:17 in her first-roumd match. Honore pinned Hawkeye CC's Makenna Brissey in :19 in the title match.
Also for the Trojans Saturday, Fernanda Ramirez was second at 180 pounds and Kenzi Jackson was second at 207 pounds. Hannah Rosenberg (131) and Ayanna Omollo (235) both placed third.
The Trojans' Brooklyn Burke placed fourth at 131 pounds.
NIACC returns to action Jan. 14 in a dual meet at Iowa Western. Match time in Council Bluffs is slated for 6 p.m.
