NIACC's Brown, Jackson stay alive in consy round
COUNCIL BLUFFS - The NIACC women's wrestling team is guaranteed two all-Americans at the NJCAA Invitational at the Mid-America Center.
NIACC's Olivia Brown (138) and Kenzi Jackson (207) both won round of eight consolation matches Friday night to guarantee themselves all-American status. The two Trojans will now wrestle Saturday in the round of four consolation matches.
Brown and Jackson both dropped their quarterfinal matches Friday night and then bounced back with a victory to remain alive in the invitational tournament.
At 138 pounds, Brown dropped a 10-6 decision to Southwestern Oregon's Anna Spencer in the quarterfinals.
Brown gained a 11-0 technical fall over Northern Oklahoma's Miah Kenny in her consolation match.
Brown (13-9) now faces Snow's Inaily Samaniego in the consolation round of four Saturday morning.
At 207 pounds, Hawkeye CC's fifth-ranked Alyson Crum topped Jackson 8-0 in the quarterfinals.
Jackson (15-7) topped Hawkeye CC's Makenna Fetters 8-0 in the consolation round.
Jackson faces Iowa Central's Harmoni Callins in the consolation round of four Saturday morning.
Brown and Jackson will be the Trojans' sixth and seventh all-Americans in the sport of women's wrestling.
