Trojans place 4th at ICCAC tournament
MASON CITY - The NIACC women's wrestling team placed fourth at the NJCAA Region 11 (ICCAC) tournament Saturday at the NIACC recreation center.
The Trojans earned their fourth-place finish with 54 points. Iowa Central was the team champion with 198 points and Iowa Western was second with 124 points.
NIACC's Olivia Brown placed third at 138 pounds and the Trojans' Kallie Gibbons placed third at 145 pounds.
Brown (10-8) pinned Iowa Western's Sara Daley in three minutes, 23 seconds in her first round match and then was pinned by Southeastern's Evelyn Phillips in 3:57 in the semifinals.
Brown pinned Iowa Central's Ellie Brenneman by fall in 2:53 in the consolation semifinals. Brown won her third-place match by medical forfeit over Iowa Western's Daley.
Brown avenged a pair of losses to the Reivers' Daley during the regular season. Daley pinned Brown in the dual meet in 1:14 and pinned Brown at the Grand View Open on Feb. 7 in 4:41.
Gibbons (4-3) opened the regional tournament iwth an 11-10 win over Iowa Central's Emily Angelo. Iowa Central's Delise Villa took a 10-0 technical fall from Gibbons in the semifinals.
Gibbons gained two wins in the consolation side of the bracket to earn her third-place finish. Gibbons pinned Hawkeye CC's Meya Roberts in 1:30 for her first collegiate pin and then topped Angelo in the third-place match, 6-1.
NIACC's Lily Powell placed fourth at 124 pounds and the Trojans' Kenzi Jackson was fourth at 207 pounds.
NIACC will next compete at the NJCAA national championships in Councl Bluffs on March 6-7.
