Overgaard leads Trojans at Mustang Fall Invite
MARION - Freshman Audrey Overgaard shot a career-best 82 to lead the NIACC women's golf team Sunday on day two of the Mount Mercy Mustang Fall Invite at Hunters Ridge Golf Course.
NIACC placed 12th with a two-day total of 378-351 - 729. Indian Hills was the team champion with a 314-314 - 628 and Morningside placed second with a 319-313 - 632.
Thhe 351 on Sunday by the Trojans was their best round of the fall. The Trojans' previous best was a 362 at the Hawkeye CC Fall Shootout on Sept. 4 in Waterloo.
"It was a much better day for the Trojans (Sunday)," NIACC coach Chris Frenz said, "but we still have plenty of work to be done.
"Audrey Overgaard broke out of her week-long funk with an outstanding round (Sunday) on a difficult golf course. It was great to see that and it'll give her a confidence boost."
Overgaard had a two-day total of 100-82 - 182 to tie for 52nd in the individual medalist competition. NIACC freshman Emma Topp also tied for 52nd with rounds of 91-91 - 182.
NIACC sophomore Addy Boell recorded the best two-day total for the Trojans with a two-day total of 92-87 - 179 to tie for 47th place.
"Addy Boell showed solid sophomore leadership with a good bounce back round (Sunday)," Frenz said. "Emma Topp had it going (Sunday) for awhile until a couple of penalty strokes knocked her off course, but she regained composure quickly."
Also for the Trojans, Avery Knutsen shot 95-91 - 186 and Danielle Randick shot 100-99 - 199.
"Avery Knutsen and Danielle Randick put up a good fight (Sunday)," Frenz said, "but things just weren't dropping."
NIACC returns to action Monday at the Iowa Central Fall Invitational in Fort Dodge.
"We're looking forward to (Monday)," Frenz said.
