Frayne leads Trojans on day 1 at Graceland Invite
MARYVILLE, Mo. - Sophomore Kenedee Frayne shot a 96 to lead the NIACC women's golf team Friday during day one of the Graceland University Spring Invitational at the Mozingo Lake Golf Course.
NIACC sits in seventh place as a team after the first 18 holes with a team score of 404. Indian Hills is the first day leader with a 330 and Clarke University is in second with a team score of 411.
"There were very difficult course conditions (Friday) led to some higher than normal scores for us," NIACC coach Chris Frenz said, "but in saying that, I saw a lot of good things happening on the team.
"Each one of them had some really nice holes and overall seemed to be hitting the ball well. The course was set up extremely long for the conditions we were playing in. So by the time we got to the green, there was a lot of pressure to one putt for par."
Also for the Trojans Friday, freshman Avery Knutsen shot 98, freshman Emma Topp shot 102 and sophomores Addy Boell and Danielle Randick shot 108.
Playing as an individual for the Troans, sophomore Kaiya Holten shot 110.
The second round of the invitational is set for Saturday.
"This is a group that won't back down from the challenge (Saturday)," the coach said, "and we're looking to move up the leaderboard."
First day team standings - Indian Hills 330, Clarke University 358, Buena Vista 383, Saint Mary (Neb.) 382, Mount Marty (S.D.) 391, Peru State 397, NIACC 404, Peru State B 451, Waldorf University 448.
