Knutsen leads Trojans at BVU Fall Invite
STORM LAKE - Freshman Avery Knutsen shot an 89 to lead the NIACC women's golf team Saturday on the first day of the Buena Vista University Fall Invitational at Lake Creek Country Club.
NIACC sits in seventh place heading into Sunday's final 18 holes with a team score of 368. Simpson College leads the tournament with a 331 and DMACC is in second with a 332.
"The course got the better of us (Saturday) overall," NIACC coach Chris Frenz said. "We're not happy with our overall score, but there were a lot of good things that happened, too.
"Avery Knutsen was very good on the front nine with a 41, but the back nine gets a little more tricky and she got herself into some trouble."
Also for the Trojans on Saturday, sophomores Danielle Randick and Addy Boell both shot 92, freshman Emma Topp shot 95 and sophomore Ashlyn Berven shot 99.
"Danielle Randick struggled on the front nine, but did a great job of bouncing back on the back nine with a 43," Frenz said. "Addy, Emma and Ashlyn had some nice stretches, too.
"So they have something positive to work from going into (Sunday)."
Team standings - Simpson 331, DMACC 332, Buena Vista 335, Loras 337, Central 347, Luther 355, NIACC 368, Buena Vista B 380, Waldorf 385, Iowa Lakes 394.
