Knutsen leads NIACC women at Iowa Central Invite
FORT DODGE - Freshman Avery Knutsen shot a first round of 89 to lead the NIACC women's golf team Friday during the first day of the Iowa Central Spring Invitational at the Fort Dodge Country Club.
NIACC sits in fifth place with a first day total of 365. Briar Cliff is the first-day team leader with a 332 and Simpson College is in second at 333.
"I thought the women's team did a nice job of getting themselves into the round (Friday)," NIACC coach Chris Frenz said. "We're disappointed that we didn't score better, but this gives us something to shoot for (Saturday).
"We need to come back with a good round as we prepare for the regional tournament coming up in two weeks."
Knutsen shot nines of 42 and 47 for her total of 89.
"Avery Knutsen kept it in the 80s, which is good," Frenz said, "We'll all look to improve (Saturday)."
Also for the Trojans Friday, sophomore Addy Boell shot 90,sophomore Kenedee Frayne shot 92, freshman Emma Topp shot 94 and sophomore Danielle Randick shot 100.
