No. 3 NIACC women stop Grand View JV, 96-91
MASON CITY - The NIACC women's basketball team rallied from a 20-point deficit in the third quarter to claim a 96-91 victory over the Grand View Junior Varsity on Saturday afternoon at the NIACC Thanksgiving Challenge.
NIACC (8-0 overall) trailed 71-51 with 3:43 left in the third quarter and outscored the Vikings 45-20 the rest of the way to claim its 22nd straight home victory. The Lady Trojans won their last three home games in the 2017-18 season, were 15-0 at home in the 2018-19 season and are 4-0 at home this season.
The last time the NIACC women lost at home was a 70-68 decision to Kirkwood on Feb. 14, 2018.
Sophomore Autam Mendez led NIACC with 27 points and 11 rebounds. The Lady Trojans also received a double/double from freshman Sierra Morrow with 18 points and 11 rebounds and 18 points from freshman Sierra Lynch.
Mendez now has nine career double/doubles. Morrow has two double/doubles this season as her first was actually a triple/double against Marshalltown CC on Nov. 9.
NIACC returns to action at 1 p.m. Sunday against Central CC-Columbus at the NIACC Thanksgiving Challenge. The Lady Trojans will be seeking to match last year's 9-0 start with a victory on Sunday.
