NIACC's Bertry places 6th in 1K at nationals
PITTSBURG, Kan. - NIACC's Sarah Bertry placed sixth in the 1,000-meter run Saturday afternoon at the NJCAA Division I national track and field meet.
Bertry earned her sixth-place finish in a time of 3 minutes, 7.16 seconds as four of the top seven runners were from the ICCAC.
New Mexico Junior College's Flomena Asekol won the event in 3:01.60.
Also in the 1K, Iowa Central's Patricia Koma was second (3:02.14), Iowa Western's Faith Chepengat was fourth (3:02.85) and Iowa Central's Lilia Alvarez was seventh (3:10.25).
On Fridayin the 1K prelims, Bertry set the school record in a time of 3:06.16 narrowly breaking the old school record held by Emma Davison, who ran 3:06.43 at the Minnesota State Ted Nelson Classic on Feb. 8, 2020.
NIACC is in 20th place with five team points.
