NIACC women place 3rd at home invite
MASON CITY - The NIACC women's golf team placed third at the NIACC Fall Invitational on Friday with a 364 at the Mason City Country Club.
DMACC was the women's team champion with a 337 and Iowa Lakes placed second with a 354. DMACC's Lydia Steier was the individual medalist with a 74.
NIACC was led by freshman Hailey Panos with a career-best 43-43 - 86.
"Hailey puts herself in scoring position off the tee most times," NIACC coach Chris Frenz said, "and because of that she keeps herself in every shot."
Also for the Lady Trojans, Thea Lunning shot a 43-44 - 87, Ashley Voves shot a 42-46 - 88 and Abby Murray shot a 52-51 - 103.
"It was on off day for Thea," Frenz said, "and she doesn't have many of those. So I know she'll rebound.
"Ashley struggled on the back nine, but she's getting so much better at continuing to battle and really played well on the front nine. Abby had some struggles with her iron play, but if she continues to put in the time, it'll come around."
The 364 by the Lady Trojans was two strokes better than the 366 they shot Tuesday at Iowa Central's tournament at the Fort Dodge Country Club.
DMACC's Lydia Steier was the individual medalist with a 74.
NIACC returns to action Tuesday at the Iowa Lakes Invitational at Brooks National Golf Course in Okoboji.
