NIACC women place 2nd at DMACC Spring Invite
AMES - The NIACC women's golf team placed second at the DMACC Spring Invitational on Tuesday at the Ames Golf and Country Club.
NIACC placed second with a team score of 362. Host DMACC was the team champion with a 353.
NIACC was led by Hailey Panos with a 82. Panos, who equaled her career best round, tied for third in the individual medalist competition.
"Hailey Panos was really good (Tuesday) in all facets of the game (Tuesday)," NIACC coach Chris Frenz said. "She was hitting her driver well, long irons and chip shots well and putted well.
"She's been working hard on her game and now she just needs to keep that momentum going."
Thea Lunning shot 87, which was sixth in the individual medalist competition.
"Thea Lunning just couldn't quite get things jump started," Frenz said. "While she didn't play bad, she wasn't pleased with her score and just couldn't get things going.
"But her focus was still excellent and she'll continue to get better as we move toward regionals."
Ashley Voves shot 96 and Abby Murray rounded out the team scoring with a 97. Jenna Paulus shot 111 for the Lady Trojans.
"Ashley Voves played a strong front nine with a 44, but ran into some penalty shots on the back," Frenz said. "I was very pleased with Abby Murray playing how she did coming off shoulder surgery and Jenna had one really bad hole. She's great to have on the team as her attitude is always positive."
NIACC returns to action Friday and Saturday at the Iowa Central Spring Invitational at the Fort Dodge Country Club.
"As a team, we shot 362 (Tuesday)," Frenz said, "with obviously a lot of room to improve.
"We'll get better at the Fort Dodge CC on Friday and Saturday."
Team standings - DMACC 353, NIACC 362, Coe College 392, Clarke University 445.
