NIACC's Lunning tied for 10th after day one at Jimmie Spring Swing
PANORA - NIACC sophomore Thea Lunning is in a tie for 10th place after the first day of competition at the 2021 Jimmie Spring Swing at the Lake Panorama Golf Course.
Lunning shot a season-opening round of 88 heading into Tuesday's round of the 36-hole tournament.
"Thea Lunning is sitting in decent position to make a move for a top 5-10 finish," NIACC coach Chris Frenz said.
Iowa Western's Luisa Gibson and Seira Kubo are tied for first in the individual medalist competition with a pair of 78s.
NIACC is in sixth place with a 414. Iowa Western is in first place with a 328 and the University of Jamestown is in second with a 349.
"The women put up a fight," Frenz said, "but (Monday) Panorama National fought back and won.
"This is a tough course and with the cold, wet weather it was even longer."
Also for the Lady Trojans Monday, Hailey Panos shot a 94, Ashley Voves shot a 111 and Jenna Paulus shot a 124.
"Hailey Panos just needs to cut down on a few mental mistakes and she'll be right there," Frenz said. "Ashley and Jenna struggled off the tee and when that happens on this course it's going to be a long day.
"They are looking forward to getting back out there (Tuesday) and competing."
Team standings - Iowa Western 328, University of Jamestown 349, Briar Cliff 355, Northwestern 396, Dordt 398, NIACC 414.
