NIACC's Lunning fires second day 90 at nationals
ORMOND BEACH, Fla. - NIACC sophomore Thea Lunning shot a 90 in the second round Tuesday at the NJCAA Division I national championships on the Plantation Bay Golf and Country Club course.
Lunning, who is from Mason City, recorded a 91 on the first day of the 72-hole tournament on Monday so is at 91-90 - 181 through the first two rounds.
"Day two seemed to go better but just a couple of mental letdowns led to a similar score to (Monday)," NIACC coach Chris Frenz said. "She's have very good control of her driver overall but that second shot she gets stretched out on these long par fours and her scrambling wasn't quite as good as normal."
Lunning recorded pars on all four of the par threes on the par 72, 6,014-yard course. She recorded pars on holes No. 4, No. 6, No. 13 and No. 16.
"She's a little frustrated with her scores to this point," Frenz said, "but honestly she's been hitting the ball well.
"She has a couple of more days to continue to figure things out and I'm confident she will."
The final two rounds of the four-day tournament are set for Wednesday and Thursday.
