NIACC women place third at Waldorf Invite
ALBERT LEA, Minn. - The NIACC women's golf team placed third at the Waldorf University Invitational on Sunday with a 370.
Viterbo was the women's team champion with a 346 and Grand View was second with a 365 and Waldorf was fourth with a 377.
"It was a pretty tough task (Sunday) on a links-style course in windy conditions," NIACC coach Chris Frenz said, "but we have some girls that just love the competition."
NIACC was led by Thea Lunning, who placed third in the individual medalist competition with a 42-40 - 82.
"Thea was solid all day," Frenz said, "and finished just two shots off the lead. Thea welcomes the challenge of playing other teams top players and she's never going to back down."
Also for the Lady Trojans, Ashley Voves shot 42-52 - 94, Hailey Panos shot 48-48 - 96 and Abby Murray shot 51-47 - 98.
"Ashley Voves put together a strong front nine," Frenz said. "Then the wind really started gusting on the back side and it made scoring difficult.
"Hailey Panos struggled a bit (Sunday) but I love her heart and determination to hang in there. Abby is such a gutty competitior. She's battling a re-occuring and whatever I get out of her is a blessing. She gives it all she's got."
NIACC returns to action Wednesday at the Simpson College Invitational in Indianola.
Team standings - Viterbo 346, Grand View 365, NIACC 370, Waldorf 377, Viterbo B 410.
