NIACC's Kipkemboi wins 10K at Mustang Open
CEDAR RAPIDS - NIACC freshman Melvin Kipkemboi won the 10,000-meter run in a time of 32 minutes, 21.71 seconds Saturday at the Mount Mercy Mustang Open.
Also in the 10K, NIACC's Vicente Correia placed fourth in a time of 32:52.65. Both Kipkemboi and Correia qualified for the NJCAA Division I national meet with their times in the 10K.
Kipkemboi's time of 32:21.71 is the second fastest 10K time in school history. Correia's time of 32:52.62 ranks fourth on the school's all-time list.
NIACC, which placed seventh with 32 points, also received third-place finishes from Titus Jackson in the 200-meter dash (22.18), which is the fifth fastest 200 time in school history.
and Randry Mugisha in the javelin (45.14 meters), which is the fourth longest toss in the school history.
NIACC's Jordan McKnight was fourth in the 400-meter dash in a time of 51.69.
