NIACC's Kipkemboi places 2nd in 3,000
CEDAR FALLS - NIACC freshman Melvin Kipkemboi placed second in the 3,000-meter run and fourth in the mile run in the junior college division at the Northern Iowa Jack Jennett Open Thursday in the UNI-Dome.
Kipkemboi, who as the NJCAA Division II national cross country champion, was second in the 3,000 in a time of nine minutes, 11.98 seconds. He clocked a 4:33.44 to earn his fourth-place finish in the mile.
NIACC placed third out of five teams with 60 points. Iowa Central was the junior college team champion with 170 points.
NIACC's Tinashe Chigudu was third in the 200 (22.52) and fifth in the 60 (7.00). Chigudu's times in both events, which rank second on NIACC's all-time list, were the exact same times he posted last week at the Northwest Missouri State Mel Tjeerdsma Classic.
Also in the 200, NIACC's Titus Jackson was sixth (23.51), DeVeon Spencer was seventh (23.58) and Marcel Smith was 17th (24.77).
In the 400, NIACC's Walker Sobolik was sixth (54.14), Smith was seventh (54.44) and Gavin Reicks was eighth (54.55).
In the 800, Bryden Juelsgaard was 14th (2:16.06) and Maxwell Deeter was 16th (2:24.11).
In the mile, Pudens Kipkosgei was fifth (4:34.86), Janvier Irakoze was seventh (4:35.90) and Vicente Correia was eighth (4:36.11).
In the 3,000, Kiplosgei was third (9:29.61) and Stephen Ringo was sixth (10:00.62).
NIACC was fifth (3:38.47) and 10th (3:53.00) in the 4x400-meter relay.
