NIACC's Chigudu wins 60 at Jack Jennett Open
CEDAR FALLS - NIACC sophomore Tinashe Chigudu won the 60-meter dash in a time of 6.82 seconds Friday at the University of Northern Iowa's Jack Jennett Open in the UNI-Dome.
Hawkeye CC's Ray Talbert was secoind in a time of 6.89. NIACC's Sanchez Redden was third in a time of 6.95 and teammate Bernard Bell was fith in 7.08.
Chigudu's time of 6.82, which qualified him for the NJCAA Division I national indoor meet, was just off his school record time of 6.76 at last season's NJCAA Division I national meet. Redden's time of 6.95 ranks third on NIACC's all-time indoor 60-meter dash list.
NIACC's Titus Jackson ran 6.98 in the prelims, which ranks fourth on the school's all-time indoor 60 list. Bell's time of 7.03 in the prelims ranks fifth on the school's all-time indoor 60 list.
Also for the Trojans on Friday, NIACC's Matt Seberson placed fifth in the long jump with a leap of 21 feet, 1/2 inch (6.41 meters), which ranks third on the school's indoor long jump list. The Trojans' Walker Sobolik placed eighth in the long jump with a jump of 20-7 3/4 (6.29 meters), which ranks fifth on the school's indoor list.
NIACC's Christian Rodriguez placed fifth in the 800-meter run in a time of 2:03.46. The Trojans' Melvin Kipkemboi was seventh in 2:05.70.
Kipkemboi placed sixth in the mile in a time of 4:33.45.
NIACC's Daqwan Sanders was fifth in the 60-meter hurdles in a time of 8.69, which ranks third on the school's all-time 60 hurdles list. The Trojans' Zachary Graeser was seventh (9.21), which ranks fifth on school's all-time 60 hurdles list.
NIACC's John Hunt placed fifth in the 600-meter run in a time of 1:27.73. Jackson was sixth in 1:28.67.
NIACC's Kameron Glasper placed sixth in the shot put with a personal best toss of 44-2 1/2 (13.47 meters), which ranks fourth in the school's all-time indoor shot put list. Glasper was also fourth in the weight throw with a throw of 44-4 (13.51 meters).
NIACC placed fourth in the 4x400-meter relay in a time of 3:35.35 running Chigudu, Jackson, Braden Powers and Redden. The Trojans' Sobolik, Graeser, Bell and Rodriguez placed sixth in the 4x400 (3:44.54).
NIACC returns to action Jan. 29 at the Sol Butler Classic in Dubuque.
