NIACC's Sobolik places 2nd in 400 hurdles at Viking Relays
DES MOINES - NIACC's Walker Sobolik places second in the 400-meter hurdles Saturday at the Grand View Viking Relays.
Sobolik earned his second-place finish in a time of 1:01.61 in his first-ever collegiate 400 hurdles race.
Also for the Trojans Saturday, Melvin Kipkemboi placed third in the 5,000-meter run in a personal-best time of 15:14.13. Kipkemboi's previous best 5K outdoor time was 15:27.03 at last year's NJCAA national meet that earned him a seventh-place finish.
The 15:14.13 by Kipkemboi is the second-fastest time in the 5K in school history. Jordan Anderson owns the school record in the 5K in a time of 14:36.87 at the Penn Relays in 2008.
NIACC placed second in the 4x800-meter relay in a time of 9:09.24 running John Hunt, Bryden Juelsgaard, Christian Rodriguez and Caleb Sledd.
Also for the Trojans, Rodriguez was fifth in the 800 (2:07.31) and Richard Marcoux was fifth in the 3,000 steeplechase (11:03.37).
NIACC's Kameron Glasper was seventh in the discus (130 feet, 1 inch) and eighth in the shot put (40-9 3/4). The Trojans' Randry Mughisha was eighth in the javelin with a toss of 126-2.
