NIACC's Kipkemboi, Chigudu set school records
MOUNT VERNON - NIACC's Melvin Kipkemboi and Tinashe Chigudu set school records on Saturday at the Mount Mercy Mustang Open.
Kipkemboi won the 3,000-meter steeplechase Saturday at the Mount Mercy Mustang Open in a school record time of 9 minutes, 29.98 seconds. The old school mark in the steeplechase was 9:38.47 by Casey Robertson at the NJCAA Region XI meet on April 30, 2010.
Chigudu won the 200-meter dash in a school record time of 21.29 seconds. He broke the old mark of 21.73 by Deionte Ganzy at the Grand View Classic on April 27, 2018.
NIACC, which placed third in the team standings with 125 points, won a total of five events at Saturday's meet. Hawkeye CC was the team champion with 157 points and host Mount Mercy was second with 141 points.
Chigudu also won the 100-meter dash in a time of 10.63 seconds. Daqwan Sanders won the 110-meter high hurdles in 15.94 seconds and Matthew Seberson won the triple jump with a leap of 12.66 meters.
Seberson was also fourth in the long jump with a leap of 6.22 meters.
NIACC's Sanders was second in the high jump with a leap of 1.85 meters.
The Trojans' Randry Mugisha was third in the javelin with a toss of 43.16 meters. Kameron Glasper was fourth in the discus (43.20 meters), fourth in the shot put (13.34 meters) and eighth in the hammer (38.98 meters).
In the 100, NIACC's Bernard Bell was fourth in 11.07 seconds.
In the 110 hurdles, NIACC's Perez Hemmings was third (17.23) and Walker Sobolik was fourth (18.59).
In the 200, NIACC's Titus Jackson was sixth (22.30).
In the 400, NIACC's Braden Powers was seventh in 51.55 seconds.
In the 800, the Trojans' John Hunt was8 sixth in a time of 2:00.10.
NIACC placed third in the 4x400 meter relay in a time of 3:28.61.
