NIACC places 5th at regional meet
STORM LAKE - The NIACC men's track and field team picked up three fifth-place finishes Saturday at the NJCAA Region XI indoor track and field championships as the Trojans placed fifth in the team standings with 44 points.
Iowa Western was the regional team champion with 251.5 points and Iowa Central was second with 229.5 points.
NIACC freshman Daqwan Sanders placed fifth in the 60-meter hurdles Saturday in a time of 8.93 seconds. Sanders qualified for the finals on Friday with the seventh-fastest qualifying time of 8.74 seconds.
Also Saturday, NIACC's Christian Rodriguez was fifth in the 800-meter run in a time of 2:03.83 and Walker Sobolik was fifth in the heptathlon with 3,594 points.
In the heptathlon, Sobolik was seventh in the 60-meter dash (7.66), seventh in the long jump (5.18 meters), seventh in the shot put (8.24 meters), seventh in the high jump (1.63 meters), third in the 60-meter hurdles (9.44), third in the pole vault (2.95 meters) and third in the 1,000 (3:01.60).
NIACC's Melvin Kipkemboi was sixth in the mile in a time of 4 minutes, 32.69 seconds. The Trojans' Kameron Glasper was sixth in the weight throw with a toss of 13.11 meters (43-0 1/4).
NIACC's John Hunt was eighth in the 600 in a time of 1:28.21.
NIACC's Bryden Juelsgaard was ninth in the 800 (2:09.56). Matt Seberson was 10th in the long jump (6.16 meters) and Richard Marcoux was 11th in the 1,000 (2:46.29).
NIACC was fourth in the 4x800-meter relay in a time of 9:01.77 running Pudens Kipkosgei, Rodriguez, Caleb Sledd and Juelsgaard.
