Trojans place 2nd at Hawkeye CC Fall Shootout
WATERLOO - The NIACC men's golf team placed second at the Hawkeye CC Fall Shootout Thursday at the Irv Warren Memorial Golf Course.
The Trojans recorded a 300 in their opening round of the fall season. Viterbo was the team champion with a 299 and host Hawkeye CC was third with a 302.
"It's always disappointing when you lose a tournament by one shot," NIACC coach Chris Frenz said, "but there is a lot to like about this team's effort (Thursday)."
Sophomore Garrett Ham led the Trojans with a 73, which earned him runner-up medalist honors. Freshman Hudson Kroymann, playing for the NIACC B team, also shot 73 and placed fifth in the individual medalist competition.
"Garrett Ham did a tremendous job of scrambling throughout the day and came through with a solid runner-up finish tying his fellow teammate with a 73."
Also for the Trojans, freshman Austin Stene shot 75, sophomore Kyler Glenn shot 76, freshman Heath Voigt shot 76 and sophomore Ashtin Willms shot 79.
"We've really had a great battle in practice for the top 10 spots," Frenz said, "and we'll just keep battling all season long. Austin Stene and Heath Voigt were solid in their first college tournament."
NIACC's B team placed tied for fourth with a 308. Kroymann shot 73, sophomore Ian Roske shot 77, sophomore Drew DeGabriele shot 79, sophomore Brody Frayne shot 79 and freshman Noah Honn shot 83.
NIACC's C team placed 10th with a 323. freshman Cade Dillavou shot 77, freshman Nolan Reser shot 78, sophomore Gavin Anderson shot 81, freshman Gavin Falde shot 87 and freshman Isaac Houdek shot 90.
NIACC returns to action Monday at the Iowa Central Fall Invitational in Fort Dodge.
