Trojans place 5th at Iowa Central Invite
FORT DODGE - The NIACC men's golf team placed fifth at the Iowa Central Spring Invitational on Saturday at the Fort Dodge Country Club.
NIACC shot a two-day total of 290-296 - 586. Host Iowa Central was the team champion with rounds of 282-286 - 568 and Southeast CC (Neb.) was second with rounds of 286-284 - 570.
"We got a taste of being near the top of the leaderboard after day one and we liked that," NIACC coach Chris Frenz said, "but (Saturday) we backed up a bit while the others stayed hot. I loved our overall effort (Saturday).
"The guys are getting more comfortable relying on each other to come through. We just need to maintain more consistency on a day two."
Freshman Heath Voigt led the Trojans with rounds of 70-73 - 143, which tied for seventh in the individual medalist competition. The Trojans' Hudson Kroymann tied for 10th in the individual medalist competition with rounds of 73-71 - 144.
"Heath Voigt and Hudson Kroymann had great tournaments for us," Frenz said. "We're definitely trending in the right direction."
Also for the Trojans, sophomore Garrett Ham shot 74-74 - 148, freshman Austin Stene shot 74-78 - 152 and sophomore Ashtin Willms shot 73-83 - 156.
Playing as individuals for the Trojans were Nolan Reser, who shot 77-79 - 156, Drew DeGabriele, who shot 80-78 - 158 and Ian Roske, who shot 82-81 - 163.
NIACC returns to action Friday at the Waterloo Intercollegiate at the Gates Park Golf Course.
