Trojans place ninth at Battle For The Mississippi
SHERRARD, Ill. - The NIACC men's golf team placed ninth at the Battle For The Mississippi Tuesday at the Frye Lake Golf Course.
NIACC earned its ninth-place finish with rounds of 309-320 - 629. Northeast CC was the team champion with a team score of 291-297 -588.
The Iowa junior college schools won the Battle Of The Mississippi over the Illinois junior college schools with the top three teams from each state accumulating the score for each state.
"A wicked day of golf for the Trojans as a team (Tuesday)," NIACC coach Chris Frenz said. "A couple of bright spots (Tuesday) was the play of Eli Anderson and Heath Voigt.
"Voigt, at one point, had it to three-under, but a couple of rough holes on the back got him. Eli was a par maching (Tuesday) so I'm pleased with his performance but he knows he can go lower."
Voigt shot rounds of 78-73 - 151 and placed 19th in the individual medalist competition. Anderson shot 79-76 - 155.
Also for the Trojans, Garrett Ham shot 75-85 - 160, Hudson Kroymann shot 77-86 - 163 and Ashtin Willms shot 89-86 - 175.
"Things just started going sideways for Ham, Willms and Kroymann," Frenz said, "and on this golf course it's hard to get back into a groove.
"It was a great golf tournamnet on a great golf course. It was a lot of fun and I hope we get another chance next year to battle for the pride of Iowa against Illinois."
