Trojans place 3rd at Waterloo Intercollegiate
WATERLOO - The NIACC men's golf team placed third at the Waterloo Intercollegiate Friday with a team score of 306.
Southeast CC was the team champion with a team score of 293 at the Gates Park Golf Course. Host Hawkeye CC was second with a 297.
"A windy day (Friday)," NIACC coach Chris Frenz said, "but we know we have to play better overall."
Freshman Heath Voigt led the Trojans with a round of 73, which tied for sixth in the individual medalist competition. Sophomore Garrett Ham was next in line for the Trojans with a round of 74, which was ninth in the individual medalist competition.
"Heath Voigt and Garrett Ham were consistent (Friday) and really put toegether nice rounds," Frenz said. "While the back end of the lineup played OK, they were frustrated because it was right there in front of us to win.
"We just have to get better scoring top to bottom. They've all done it and we've been near the top in each tournament. If we put it together all at the same time, look out."
Also for the Trojans on Friday, freshman Austin Stene shot 79, sophomore Ashtin Willms shot 80 and freshman Hudson Kroymann shot 81.
Playing as individuals for the Trojans, sophomore Ian Roske shot 80 and freshman Nolan Reser shot 85.
NIACC returns to action Monday at the Highland Spring Invitational in Rockford, Ill. at the Forest Hills Country Club.
