Trojans tie for 5th at own invite
MASON CITY - The NIACC men's golf team tied for fifth Tuesday at the NIACC Fall Invitational at Higland Park Golf Course.
NIACC and Iowa Central B tied for fifth with a team score of 286. Southwestern CC was the team champion with a 272 while Northeast CC and Iowa Central tied for second with rounds of 275.
"We had some great individual efforts (Tuesday)," NIACC coach Chris Frenz said, "and I can't say enough about how each of these guys are pushing each other to be their best each and every time they step on the course.
"We're really trying to figure out the top five guys, but honestly, they are all capable of being there any given day."
Freshman Heath Voigt led NIACC with a career-best 69, which tied for ninth in the individual medalist competition. Sophomore Garrett Ham shot a fall-season best 70, which tied for 14th in the individual medalist competition.
Also for the Trojans, sophomore Kyler Glenn shot a career-best 73, freshman Hudson Kroymann shot 74 and freshman Austin Stene shot 77.
"It was a great round again from Heath Voigt and Garrett Ham," Frenz said. "Nolan Reser was terrific (Tuesday) as was Eli Anderson.
"I need to be able to count on each and every one of these guys and I'm just so impressed with how they battle. We're just looking for more consistency"
Reser, playing on the NIACC B team, shot a career-best 69, which tied for ninth. The NIACC B team placed 10th with a 299.
The 69s by Voigt and Reser are tied for the eighth best rounds in the Chris Frenz era at NIACC, which started in 2006. The last time a NIACC golfer broke 70 was at the NIACC Spring Invitational on April 22, 2025 when Bennett Berger shot 65 and Ham shot 69.
Also for the NIACC B team, sophomore Drew DeGabriele shot 75, which matched his career-best, sophomore Ashtin Willms shot 76, Brody Frayne shot 79 and Ian Roske shot 80.
The NIACC C team placed eighth with a 296. Freshman Eli Anderson led the NIACC C team with a fall-season best 71, freshman Noah Honn shot a fall-season best 73, sophomore Gavin Anderson shot a fall-season best 76, freshman Cade Dillavou shot 76 and freshman Isaac Houdek shot 80.
Freshman Gavin Falde, playing as an individual, shot a career-best 76.
"We're not happy with not winning our own tournament," Frenz said, "but Southwestern was simply too good (Tuesday) (-16 as a team) and hats off to them."
