Trojans claim BVU Fall Invite title
STORM LAKE - The NIACC men's golf team claimed the 2025 Buena Vista University Fall Invitational on Sunday by a single stroke over host Buena Vista.
NIACC won the nine-team invitational with a two-day total of 302-302 - 604. Buena Vista was second with a 299-306 - 605 and Iowa Lakes was third with rounds of 309-297 - 606.
"It was a big win for the Trojans this weekend," NIACC coach Chris Frenz said. "It was a battle all weekend long and it came down to the wire.
"This is just a prime example of every stroke counts and you have to keep your head in the game the entire round."
It was the first team title for the NIACC men's golf team since winning the 2025 NIACC Spring Invitational. It was the 16th team title in the Frenz coaching era.
NIACC was led by freshman Heath Voigt and sophomore Garrett Ham, who tied for sixth in the individual medalist competition. Voigt had rounds of 72-77 - 149 and Ham had rounds of 76-73 - 149.
"Heath was great (Saturday) and wasn't really happy with his play (Sunday)," Frenz said, "but what he did (Saturday) helped put us in the position we were in (Sunday).
Also for the Trojans, sophomore Ashtin Willms shot 76-76 - 152, freshman Eli Anderson shot 78-76 - 154 and freshman Hudson Kroymann shot 79-86 - 165.
"Garrett Ham and Ashtin Willms really worked hard (Sunday) and Ashtin hit a big birdie on his final hole while Garrett made an eagle earlier in the round," Frenz said. "I can't say enough about how Eli Anderson hung in there (Sunday).
"He started out rough and really had some self doubt going, but he pulled himself together and came through with a big round. It's greaty to see all of our hard work payng off."
