No. 7 NIACC tops Ellsworth, 9-1
WATERLOO - The No. 7 NIACC baseball team topped Ellsworth 9-1 in eight innings in the second round of the NJCAA Region XI tournament at Riverfront Stadium.
NIACC (43-13) received a 13-strikeout, complete-game performance from Derek Lieurance, who scattered six hits and allowed a single run in the seventh inning.
The 13 strikeouts from Lieurance (9-0) was a career high. His previous career high was 10 in a game earlier this season against Southwestern.
NIACC plays Southeastern at 11 a.m. Sunday with the winner advancing to the championship game.
In Saturday's second-round win, sophomore Robbie Glendinning led the NIACC offense with five RBIs.
Malique Ziegler, Spencer Halloran, Glendinning, Troy Bullingham and Blake Whitecotton all had two hits each for the Trojans.
