No. 13 NIACC baseball team opens league season Friday
WEST BURLINGTON - The No. 13 NIACC baseball team opens play in the ICCAC Friday and Saturday against Southeastern CC in a four-game series.
Doubleheaders start both days at 1 p.m.
NIACC (13-5 overall) is led at the plate by sophomores Robbie Glendinning and Spencer Halloran, who are both hitting .431, which is tied for fourth in the ICCAC. Glendinning leads the league with 31 hits.
Glendinning is tied for second on NIACC's career hit list with 138 with Erik Smith, who played at NIACC from 2007-08. Halloran has 98 career hits and sophomore Troy Bullingham has 96 career hits.
On the mound for NIACC, sophomore Dan Loats is 4-0 with 26 strikeouts and a 2.40 earned run average. Freshman Derek Lieurance is 3-0 with 25 strikeouts and a 0.00 ERA.
Southeastern (14-8) is led at the plate by Gabriel Montero, who is hitting .361 with six doubles, three triples and two home runs. Luis Vargas leads the Blackhawks with 15 RBIs.
On the mound, Southeastern is led by Andrew Stout, who is 5-0 with 33 strikeouts and nine walks in 33 innings pitched with a 1.91 ERA.
Notes: NIACC was 5-0 against Southeastern last season ... The Trojans swept the 4-game regular season series and topped the Blackhawks 5-3 at the NJCAA Region XI tournament ... NIACC coach Travis Hergert is 7-7 all-time vs. Southeastern ... Hergert has a career record of 118-70.
