NIACC splits with Crowder in battle of rated teams

NEOSHO, Mo. — The No. 13 (NJCAA Division II) NIACC baseball team split a doubleheader with No. 17 (NJCAA Division I) Crowder College on Saturday, taking the first game 10-9 before falling 6-0 in the nightcap.
"I thought we came up with some timely hits in Game 1," NIACC coach Travis Hergert said. "We faced a tall lefty in the second game and couldn't square anything up at the plate."
In the opener, Dan Loats struck out four, walked four and hit a batter in five innings of work, before Crowder battled back.
"Dan went five strong innings for us and then we brought in a freshman (Noah Egger) and he was a little erratic," Hergert said. "I thought Pat Machibroda and Danny Beizer did a nice job locking it down for us."
At the plate, Austin LaDoux had two hits, including a home run, and drove in three while Jonathan Curz also had three RBIs for the Trojans, who collected 14 hits.
However, the offense was limited to three hits in the second game – singles by Malique Ziegler, Troy Bullingham and Brandon Michie, who had three hits in the opener.
NIACC (9-1) travels to Northern Oklahoma College-Enid for a doubleheader Sunday.
