No. 7 NIACC baseball team faces Ellsworth tonight
WATERLOO - The No. 7 NIACC baseball team faces Ellsworth in the second round of the NJCAA Region XI tournament at 7 tonight at Riverfront Stadium.
NIACC (42-13) topped Southwestern 5-2 in the opening round of the regional tournament Thursday night. Sophomore Tony Grabowske gained the win for the Trojans with 11 strikeouts in seven innings.
Sixth-seed Ellsworth (13-44) advanced with a 3-1 win over third-seed Kirkwood on Thursday.
NIACC won three out of four games against Ellsworth in the final weekend of the regular season. The Trojans also topped Ellsworth 15-9 in elimination game at the 2015 regional tournament.
NIACC notes: Since the 2013 season, the Trojans have a post-season record of 22-9 ... NIACC coach Travis Hergert has a career record of 147-78 ... It is the fifth straight season that the Trojans have won their regional tournament opener ... The last time the Trojans lost their first game at the regional tournament was in 2011 when Kirkwood topped NIACC 4-3 ... Hergert is 12-6 all-time vs. Ellsworth.
