No. 10 NIACC splits with Ellsworth
IOWA FALLS — With its top two pitchers on the mound, No. 10 NIACC struggled to keep Ellsworth off the scoreboard in an ICCAC doubleheader Friday. The Panthers scored three runs in the bottom of the seventh to rally past the Trojans 13-12 in Game 1 before NIACC plated 20 runs in a 20-13 win in the nightcap.
"(The offense) pounded away and gave us every chance to win the first one," NIACC coach Travis Hergert said. "We were just not good on the mound, period."
NIACC smashed 6 home runs in the opener, including two by Blake Whitecotton, and added three more in Game 2.
NIACC (39-13, 20-6) hosts Ellsworth in a doubleheader today with the conference still on the line. If Southeastern wins one game in a doubleheader vs. Kirkwood, it wins the conference.
