Burchett to assist with Trojan volleyball team
MASON CITY - Nathan Burchett begins his first season as an assistant coach with the NIACC volleyball team starting in the 2025 season.
He has previously coached with North Iowa Blaze, where he helped develop a 12U team that qualified for nationals.
"I've always loved the sport of volleyball," Burchett said, "and have played for many years with a particular passion for running an offense.
"When I spoke with (head coach Chris Brandt) about the position, it felt like a great fit – my strengths align well with what the team is looking for. I've also observed how the coaching staff interacts with the players and I was genuinely impressed by the positive and supportive environment they've created."
Burchett has played tournament-level volleyball since 2012 and brings a deep understanding of the game to his coaching role.
From 2012 to 2014, he served as the head throws coach for NIACC's track and field team.
"I've learned that there is always room for improvement," Burchett said, "both as a coach and as an individual.
"Over time, I've developed strong communication skills and the ability to offer encouragement when it's most needed. I've helped many athletes improve by paying close attention to detail and making subtle adjustments that lead to meaningful progress – skills that come from experience and a commitment to continual growth."
Burchett joins the NIACC coaching staff of Brandt, Andie Olson (assistant coach/recruiting coordinator) and Mary Jo Vrba (volleyball operations).
The Trojans open their 2025 season at the OWT All-In Volleyball Tournament on Aug. 23-24 in Rockford, Ill.
