NIACC stops Southwestern CC, 3-0
MASON CITY - The NIACC volleyball team topped Southwestern CC 3-0 Wednesday night in an ICCAC contest in the NIACC gym.
NIACC (9-7 overall, 1-3 in the ICCAC) won 25-10, 25-15, 25-15.
"(Wednesday) was just pure joy - watching the team come together to execute our game plan and just being able to watch them take control," NIACC coach Chris Brandt said. "We will enjoy the success (Wednesday) but then get back to work (Thursday)."
Sophomore Hannah Brinkman and freshman Jocelynn Coleman led the Trojans with 11 kills apiece. Coleman also had two digs and one block.
Also for the Trojans, sophomore Megan Tobin and freshman Brielle Volker both had seven kills. Volker had eight digs and five ace serves and Tobin had one dig and one block.
NIACC's Kenedee Frayne had 22 assists, two digs, two ace serves and one kills. Freshman Kendal VanMinsel had 10 assists and three digs.
The Trojans' Carissa Timmerman had 14 digs, three ace serves and three assists. The Trojans' Kinsey Anderson had six digs and two ace serves, Kylee Reuter had two kills and one block, Bailey Dagestad had one kill and one block and Alva Fraenkel had two ace serves and one dig.
NIACC returns to action Saturday at home in the Border Bash. NIACC faces RCTC at 1 p.m. and Minnesota West CTC at 3 p.m.
