Trojans fall to Northeast CC, 3-2
MASON CITY - The NIACC volleyball team dropped a 3-2 decision to Northeast CC in an ICCAC contest in the NIACC gym on sophomore night.
Northeast CC won 18-25, 25-14, 28-26, 22-25, 15-6.
Before the match, NIACC honored sophomores Kinsey Anderson, Hannah Brinkman, Kenedee Frayne, Emma Miller and Megan Tobin.
"Sophomore night is always a special night to honor our amazing young women and their families," NIACC coach Chris Brandt said.
NIACC (14-16 overall, 3-7 in the ICCAC) won the opening set and then won the fourth set to force the fifth and deciding set. Northeast CC improved to 13-16 overall and 8-2 in the ICCAC.
"(Tuesday) we put up a battle even though we didn't get the outcome we needed," Brandt said. "We did handle some unique situations very well and we are proud of those efforts."
Brinkman led the Trojans with 15 kills and five blocks. Jocelynn Coleman had 13 kills, 10 digs, three blocks and one ace serve.
Also for the Trojans, Tobin had nine kills and two digs, Frayne had 17 assists, five digs and one ace serve, Kendal VanMinsel had 17 assists, six digs and one ace serve and Carissa Timmerman had 30 digs, four assists and three ace serves.
NIACC's Anderson had seven digs, Brielle Volker had six kills, four assists, 13 digs and one ace serve and Bailey Dagestad had two kills and one block.
NIACC's Miller had five kills, seven digs, one block and one ace serve and Alva Fraenkel had four digs.
NIACC returns to action Thursday in an ICCAC contest against Central CC-Columbus in Columbus, Neb. Match time is slated for 6 p.m.
