MASON CITY - The NIACC volleyball team dropped a pair of matches Saturday at the first Border Bash in the NIACC gym.
NIACC dropped a 3-2 decision to RCTC. The Yellow Jackets won 17-25, 21-25, 25-21, 25-19, 15-11.
Minnesota West CTC swept the Trojans 3-0. Minnesota West won 25-18, 25-16, 25-20.
"it was a tough day in the gym," NIACC coach Chris Brandt said, "when we had moments of great play followed by poor execution and it was hard to build much momentum.
"We get to rest a day and then it's back to work preparing for a challenging ICCAC match next week."
In other matches Saturday, Minnesota West CTC topped Ellsworth 3-2 and Ellsworth beat RCTC 3-0.
For the Trojans Saturday, sophomore Megan Tobin led the Trojans with 26 kills. Tobin also had five digs and two blocks.
NIACC freshman Jocelynn Coleman had 20 kills, six digs and four blocks. Sophomore Kenedee Frayne had 36 assists, 10 digs and two ace serves.
NIACC freshman Kendal VanMinsel had 31 assists, 10 digs and five ace serves. Freshman Brielle Volker had 11 kills and 16 digs, sophomore Kinsey Anderson had 16 digs and four ace serves and sophomore Hannah Brinkman had 17 kills and two blocks.
NIACC freshman Bailey Dagestad had five kills and six blocks and freshman Carissa Timmerman had 31 digs and 12 assists.
NIACC (9-9 overall) returns to action Wednesday at home against Iowa Central. Match time in the NIACC gym is slated for 7 p.m.
