Trojans stop Lakers, 3-1
MASON CITY - The NIACC volleyball team topped Iowa Lakes 3-1 Wednesday night in an ICCAC match in the NIACC gym.
NIACC (12-12 overall, 3-5 in the ICCAC) won 25-11, 14-25, 25-15, 25-23. Iowa Lakes fell to 8-19 overall and 2-6 in league play.
"We were really happy to see them execute the offensive game plan," NIACC coach Chris Brandt said, "and when things weren't going our way, keep competing at a high level.
"We are fortunate to have the weekend off to rest our bodies before we prepare for another challenging conference match next week."
NIACC was led by freshman Jocelynn Coleman with 11 kills, three blocks and two digs. Sophomore Megan Tobin had 10 kills and four blocks, freshman Brielle Volker had eight kills, eight digs and one ace serve and sophomore Hannah Brinkman had seven kills, six ace serves and one block.
Also for the Trojans, sophomore Kenedee Frayne had 19 assists and five digs and freshman Kendal VanMinsel had 14 assists, four digs and three ace serves.
NIACC's Bailey Dagestad had four blocks and three kills, Emma Miller had two kills and two blocks and Alva Fraenkel had 14 digs and one ace serve.
NIACC returns to action next Wednesday at No. 4 Kirkwood (21-1, 8-0). Match time in Cedar Rapids is set for 6:30 p.m.
