Trojans fall to DMACC, 3-1
BOONE - The NIACC volleyball team dropped a 3-1 decision to No. 18 DMACC on Wednesday in an ICCAC match.
DMACC won 25-14, 25-23, 23-25, 25-21.
"Our defense came alive (Wednesday) and gave us opportunities to keep the ball alive," NIACC coach Chris Brandt said. "We were very impressed with their efforts and made a solid DMACC team work very hard to earn their points."
It was the final match for NIACC sophomores Kinsey Anderson, Emma Miller, Megan Tobin, Kenedee Frayne and Hannah Brinkman.
"We are sad to see our season come to an end and will miss the sophomores for their amazing leadership," Brandt said. "They leave behind their legacy of hard work and team-first attitudes that will inspire the next round of leaders."
In Wednesday's match against the Bears, freshman Jocelynn Coleman had 13 kills, two digs and one block. Tobin had eight kills, four blocks and four digs and Brinkman had eight kills and four blocks.
NIACC's Brielle Volker had seven kills, nine digs and one ace serve. Bailey Dagestad had five kills and one block, Miller had three kills, two ace serves and one block and Frayne had 23 assists, six digs and one ace serve.
The Trojans' Kendal VanMinsel had 14 assists, three ace serves and three digs. Alva Fraenkel had 11 digs and Carissa Timmerman had 16 digs, three assists and one ace serve.
NIACC concluded its season with an overall record of 14-18 and 3-9 in the ICCAC. DMACC (24-13, 9-3) earned the third-seed and opens NJCAA Region 11-B tournament play at home on Saturday against sixth-seed Ellsworth (17-14, 6-6).
