SHAWNEE, Kan. - The No. 15 NIACC softball split a pair of games Thursday at the Mid-America Complex.
NIACC (2-5 overall) dropped an 11-3 decision to Iowa Western and topped Indian Hills 8-3.
In the win over Indian Hills (3-13), freshman left-hander Chloe Thurlby picked up her first collegiate win in the circle. Thurlby (1-3) struck out a career-high six and did not walk a batter in gaining the complete-game win.
Thurlby allowed a single run in the first inning and two runs in the sixth inning.
NIACC scored four runs in the opening inning, added a single run in the sixth frame and plated three runs in the seventh inning.
Freshman Kennedi McGarvey led the Trojans' offense by going 2 for 3, including a double and first career home run, with four RBIs. Sophomore Katie Riesselman was 2 for 4, including a double, with two RBIs.
Also for the Trojans, freshman Emma Wall was 2 for 4. Freshman Addie Rhoades had a double and an RBI.
Against Iowa Western (10-0), the Reivers broke a 2-2 tie by scoring six runs in the fifth inning. The Reivers also pushed across three runs in the sixth frame.
NIACC scored single runs in the third, fourth and sixth innings.
Wall was 2 for 3 with an RBI double and a solo home run. It was Wall's first career double and first career home run.
NIACC returns to action Friday against Neosho County CC (4-9-1) at 12:30 p.m. and Southwestern CC (4-4) at 5:30 p.m.
