SHAWNEE, Kan. - The No. 15 NIACC softball team won a pair of games on Saturday with freshman Chloe Thurlby gaining the win in both games.
NIACC topped John Wood CC 8-1 and stopped Metropolitan CC 10-1 in five innings.
In the win over John Wood CC, NIACC broke a 1-1 tie with four runs in the fifth inning and hree runs in the sixth inning.
Thurlby relieved starter Maren Sauvageau in the fifth inning and held John Wood CC scoreless for 2 1/3 innings. She did not allow a hit while striking out four and walking one.
The top of the NIACC batting order provided a majority of the offense in the 7-run win. Leadoff hitter Emma Wall was 1 for 3, including a home run, with three RBIs and scored two runs and No. 2 hitter Makayla Wirkus was 1 for 3, including a homer, with two RBIs.
It was Wall's third home run of the season. It was Wirkus' first home run of the season and 11th of her career.
In the win over Metropolitan CC, NIACC (5-6 overall) scored in four of its five at-bates. The Trojans scored three runs in the first inning, a single run in the second inning, two runs in the third inning and four runs in the fifth frame.
Ally Wall and Addie Rhoades homered for the Trojans. Rhoades' homer was a grand slam in the fifth inning.
It was Ally Wall's third home run of the season and 24th of her career and Rhoades' second of the season.
Thurlby (4-3) gained the complete-game win. She struck out a career-high 10 with one walk and allowed one hit in five innings of work.
Metropolitan CC scored its lone run, an unearned run, in the third inning.
NIACC returns to action Sunday against Southeast CC.
