OVERLAND PARK, Kan. - The No. 20 NIACC softball team split a non-conference doubleheader with No. 11 Johnson County CC on Tuesday.
NIACC won the opener 7-1 and Johnson County CC salvaged the twinbill split with a 6-5 win in the second game.
In the first game, NIACC (11-8) scored a single run in the first inning, two runs in the third inning, one run in the fifth inning and three runs in the sith frame.
Freshman left-hander Chloe Thurlby (7-5) gained the win for the Trojans in the circle. Thurlby scattered five hits, allowed one run with six strikeouts and one walk in her seven innings of work.
NIACC pounded out 11 hits to score its seven runs. Sophomore Makayla Wirkus was 3 for 4, including two doubles, with two RBIs and two runs scored.
NIACCs Ally Wall was 3 for 4, including a double, and Emma Wall was 2 for 3 with three runs scored and two stolen bases.
In the secone game, Johnson County CC (9-5) scored two runs in the first, second and fourth innings, The Trojans plated two runs in the second and fourth frames and a single run in the seventh inning.
NIACC's Ally Wall, Katie Riesselman and Emma Wennersten all had two hits.
NIACC returns to action Thursday in a non-league twinbill against Dawson CC (10-7) in Kansas City, Kan.
