CEDAR RAPIDS - The NIACC softball team stayed alive at the NJCAA Region 11-A tournament on Saturday on the Kirkwood campus.
NIACC (40-22) topped Ellsworth 6-2 in an elimination game Saturday afternoon after dropping an 8-1 decision to top-seed Kirkwood in its opening game of the day.
NIACC now faces Kirkwood (57-5) at noon on Sunday in the regional title game. The Trojans have to beat the Eagles twice to claim the regional title.
In Saturday's win over Ellsworth, sophomore right-hander Ally Wall gained the win in the circle for the Trojans. Wall scattered four hits and the Panthers scored two unearned runs.
NIACC pounded out 13 hits to score its six runs. Mya Bunkers and Makayla Wirkus both collected three hits for the Trojans.
The Trojans received home runs from JoAnna Wallace, Kennedi McGarvey and Sharli Fessler.
In the Trojans' first game Saturday against Kirkwood, the Trojans scored their lone run on a sacrifice fly from Wall.
Wirkus had two hits and drew a walk for the Trojans.
Kirkwood has won all five games against the Trojans this season. The Eagles also won 4-0 and 7-0 on March 28 in Mason City and won 7-2 and 7-6 on April 20 in Cedar Raoids.
