IOWA FALLS - The No. 23 NIACC softball team swept Ellsworth in an ICCAC doubleheader on Tuesday.
NIACC (25-12 overall, 10-4 in the ICCAC) won the opener 7-0 as freshman left-hander Chloe Thurlby tossed a no-hitter with 11 strikeouts. It was the second no-hitter of the season for Thurlby.
The Trojans, who have won four straight games, won the second game 15-4 in five innings with sophomore Mya Bunkers driving in five runs and sophomore Katie Riesselman driving in four runs.
In the first game, the Trojans received two hits apiece from Makayla Wirkus, Ally Wall, Riesselman, Aubrey Chapman and Addie Rhoades.
Rhoades hit a home run with two RBIs and Riesselman and Chapman both drove in runs.
In the second game, Bunkers was 3 for 3, including a double, and Riesselman was 2 for 3 with two doubles.
Wirkus, Emma Wall and Ally Wall all had two hits. Emma Wall drove in two runs and had a triple.
Ally Wall gained the win in the circle allowing three earned runs on four hits iwth six strikeouts.
NIACC returns to action Friday in a doubleheader at No. 9 DMACC.
