MASON CITY - The No. 22 NIACC softball team swept Ellsworth in an ICCAC doubleheader Wednesday afternoon on the NIACC campus.
NIACC (27-16 overall, 12-8 in the ICCAC) won the first game 8-1 and completed the sweep with a 9-1 five-inning victory in the second game.
In the opener, freshman left-hander Chloe Thurlby tossed a one-hitter with five strikeouts to gain the win in the circle for the Trojans.
NIACC sophomore Makayla Wirkus was 3 for 3, including two doubles. Ally Wall and Kennedi McGarvey both drove in two runs.
In the second game, Ally Wall gained the win in the circle for the Trojans. Wall tossed a three-hitter with seven strikeouts in her five innings of work.
The Trojans received home runs from Emma Wall and Emma Wennersten. Wirkus, Emma Wall and Ally Wall all had two hits apiece.
Katie Riesselman, Ally Wall and Mya Bunkers collected doubles for the Trojans.
NIACC returns to action Saturday at home in an ICCAC twinbill against No. 8 DMACC. The first game is slated to start at 1 p.m.
