MASON CITY - The No. 22 NIACC softball team swept an ICCAC doubleheader from Iowa Lakes on Sunday on the NIACC campus.
NIACC (30-17 overall, 15-9 in the ICCAC) won the first game 7-2 and completed the sweep with a come-from-behind 12-7 win in the second game.
Freshman left-hander Chloe Thurlby gained the win in both contests for the Trojans.
In the opener, Thurlby scattered six hits allowing two runs with seven strikeouts.In the second game, Thurlby relieved starter Maren Sauvageau in the fourth inning with the score tied at 6-6. NIACC outscored the Lakers 6-1 over the final three innings.
In the second game, Thurlby struck out five and did not walk a batter in 3 2/3 innings of work.
Thurlby now has 188 strikeouts and 47 walks in 159 1/3 innings of work.
The 188 strikeouts by Thurlby ranks second on the school's single-season strikeout list. Jennifer Spencer is the school's single-season strikeout leader with 189 in 1994.
In the first game, NIACC's Aubrey Chapman was 3 for 4 with an RBI. The Trojans' Ally Wall was 2 for 4, including a double, with four RBIs.
The Trojans' Emma Wall was 2 for 4, including a double. The Trojans' Mya Bunkers was 2 for 3, including a double, with an RBI.
In the second game, the Trojans' JoAnna Wallace drove in a career-best five runs. Wallace's previous career single-game RBI total was three three times.
Emma Wall, Kennedi McGarvey, Addie Rhoades and Wallace all had two hits each.
The two wins gave the Trojans 30 wins. It is the fourth straight season that the Trojans have won at least 30 games.
NIACC returns to action Thursday in a league twinbill against Northeast Iowa CC in Fairley. The first game is slated to start at 2 p.m.
