NIACC women stop Southeastern, 93-71
MASON CITY - The NIACC women's basketball team topped Southeastern CC 93-71 for its fifth straight victory Saturday afternoon in the NIACC gym.
It was the final regular season home game for seven NIACC sophomores.
NIACC (17-10 overall, 9-3 in the ICCAC) was led by sophomore Trudy Peterson with 17 points and sophomore Diamond Miller with 16 points. The Lady Trojans also received 13 points from sophomore Sam Adamich, 12 points from sophomore Sammie Sproul and 10 points from sophomore Anna Eckert.
NIACC led 61-54 after three quarters and outscored Southeastern 32-17 in the final 10 minutes to complete the regular season sweep of Southeastern.
NIACC, which is 4-0 when scoring at least 90 points this season, was 14 of 42 from 3-point range. Peterson and Sproul both connected on four 3-point goals.
Peterson moved into second place on the school's career 3-point list with 116.On Saturday, she passed Julia Oertel (1992-94), who was second with 115 and Teresa Oertel (1997-99), who was third with 113.
Sophomore Savanah Lentz had seven assists and 6 rebounds for the Lady Trojans and freshman Morgan Cuffe scored eight points with six rebounds, five assists and three steals.
With the win and Iowa Central's 88-51 loss to Kirkwood, NIACC moved into second place in the league standings with two league games remaining.
NIACC plays at Iowa Lakes on Wednesday and at Kirkwood next Saturday.
