No. 5 NIACC women top Cincinnati State, 93-80
PEORIA, Ill. - The No. 5 NIACC women's basketball team topped Cincinnati State Technical and CC 93-80 in the opening round of the Illinois Central holiday tournament Monday.
Sophomore Trudy Peterson scored 28 points, including eight 3-point goals to lead the Lady Trojans (8-4).
Peterson has 45 3-point goals this season (18th on school's single-season list) and has 87 career 3-point goals, which ranks 10th on the school's career list. Peterson passed Cortni Rush, who made 84 3-point goals in the 2013-14 season. Kelli Terrell, who played from 2003-05, ranks ninth on the school's career list with 95 career 3-point goals.
"It was a tough game to play after 20 days without a game," NIACC coach Todd Ciochetto told the Globe Gazette. "But our bench was on fire. Riley (Galvin) made some big threes and Savannah (Lentz) played well in her first time back."
Anna Eckert (14), Sammie Sproul (13), Galvin (11) and Courtney Larson (10) also finished in double figures. Additionally, Diamond Miller scored eight points and Lentz added seven.
Cydney Franklin led Cincinnati State with 15 points.
NIACC plays No. 4 Illinois Central of McHenry County at 4 p.m. Tuesday in the semifinals. No. 3 Schoolcraft and No. 6 Kirkwood meet in the first semifinal at 2 p.m. Tuesday.
It will be NIACC's third meeting this season against Illinois Central. NIACC topped Illinois Central 84-76 in overtime at the Konigsmark Klassic and Illinois Central stopped NIACC 86-75 at the Kirkwood tournament.
