Sproul powers NIACC women past Ellsworth, 106-59
MASON CITY - Sophomore Sammie Sproul scored 35 points, including 10 3-point goals, to lead NIACC to a 106-59 victory over Ellsworth in ICCAC women's basketball on Saturday in the NIACC gym.
Sproul was 10 of 14 from 3-point range as NIACC improved to 10-8 overall and 2-1 in the ICCAC.
NIACC also received 13 points from Trudy Peterson, 12 points from Sam Adamich and 10 from Savannah Lentz.
Diamond Miller scored eight points with nine rebounds. Georgina Wirth scored nine points.
The 10 3-point goals from Srpoul is tied for fourth in NIACC women's history. Savannah Lentz connected on 10 3-point goals last season against Ellsworth and Jennifer Currier made 10 in a game in the 1987-88 season against Iowa Central.
Lentz connected on two 3-point goals to increase her career total to 112, which moved her all alone into third place on the school's career list. Trudy Peterson moved into a tie with Kelli Terrell for ninth place on the all-time list with 95.
NIACC scored at least 100 points for the sixth time in Todd Ciochetto's two years as coach of the Lady Trojans. It's the 18th time in the last five seasons that the Lady Trojans have scored at least 100 points.
