NIACC's Sproul earns ICCAC player of week honor
MASON CITY - NIACC sophomore point guard Sammie Sproul earned the ICCAC women's basketball player of the week award.
No. 9 NIACC opened its 2015-16 season with a pair of wins over North Dakota State College of Science (76-51) and Williston State (98-77).
Sproul, a transfer from Marshalltown CC, scored 10 points with six rebounds, five assists and five steals in the win over NDSCS. She scored 18 points with seven rebounds, five assists and nine steals in the win over Williston State.
The former Waterloo West prep also was 4 of 10 from 3-point range in the two victories.
Last season, NIACC players won the league player of the week honors seven times. Sierra Ford-Washington won the award five times and Logan Anderson and Anna Eckert both received the award once.
Sproul averaged 9.6 points and 4.2 rebounds per game last season at Marshalltown. She also accumulated 144 assists, 68 steals and connected on 49 3-point goals during her freshman season with the Tigers.
NIACC (2-0 overall) returns to action at 6 p.m. Friday at home against No. 2 Illinois Central in the Konigsmark Klassic.
