Trojans ranked 9th in latest poll
- Trojans move into top 10 after win over Kirkwood
- Trojans host Southeastern CC Wednesday
MASON CITY - The NIACC women's basketball moved up to No. 9 in the NJCAA Division II poll released Tuesday.
NIACC (18-2 overall, 12-2 in the ICCAC) was No. 13 in the Jan. 20 poll. The Trojans topped Ellsworth (71-57) and No. 7 Kirkwood (71-66 in overtime) in last week's contests.
NIACC snapped a 13-game losing streak to the tradition-rich Eagles. It was the Trojans' first win at Kirkwood since winning 63-60 on Jan. 29, 2020.
The win by the Trojans at Kirkwood snapped the Eagles' 85-game home court winning streak. The last loss at home by the Eagles was a 73-68 loss to Iowa Western on March 23, 2021.
The Trojans have been ranked in all of 11 of the polls in the 2025-26 season.
It is the first time the Trojans have been in the top 10 since the preseason poll in the 2024-25 season when they were ranked 10th.
Johnson County CC (22-0) remained at No. 1 in this week's poll. Kirkwood (17-3, 11-2) is ranked No. 7.
Iowa Lakes (15-5, 11-2) is ranked No. 19 and Northeast CC (14-5, 9-4) is ranked No. 22 while Iowa Central (16-5, 9-4) is receiving votes.
NIACC returns to action Wednesday at home against Southeastern CC (7-14, 2-11). Game time in the NIACC gym is slated for 5:30 p.m.
